The prancing horse from Baracca to Ferrari

"The is a fascinating story behind the black prancing horse set against a yellow background, a story that Enzo Ferrari told just once and in just 109 short words. "The prancing horse was painted on the fuselage of the fighter plane belonging to Francesco Baracca, teh heroic Ace of Ace who lost his life in the First World War." When I won the first Savio circuit, which was held at Ravenna, in 23, I met Count Enrico Baracca, the hero's father. After that encounter, I was introduced to his mother, the Countess Paolina. One day she said to me: "Ferrari, put my son's prancing horse on your cars. It'll bring you luck." I still have a photograph of Baracca with a dedication from his parents in which they entrust me with his emblem. The prancing horse was and remains black. I added the canary yellow background as this is the Modena colour."
