Ferrari has unveiled the brand new F8 Spider, the new generation drop-top sports car equipped with the most successful mid-rear-mounted V8 in history. Replacing the 488 Spider, the new F8 Spider is the latest in Ferrari's celebrated stable of open-top V8 cars, beginning with the 308 GTS in 1977.
Powering the F8 Spider is Ferrari's award-winning turbocharged 3.9-litre V8 engine, capable of unleashing its full 710bhp and 770Nm of torque instantaneously with zero turbo lag, while still retaining the V8's unique and special soundtrack.
The ample power is matched with exceptional handling prowess, thanks to advanced vehicle dynamics solutions. Besides being 50kg lighter than the 488 Spider, the F8 Spider also features a new version of the Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer (FDE+) first featured on the F8 Tributo, activated in the manettino's 'Race' position.
This makes driving at the limit an easier and more confidence-inspiring experience. The Side Slip Control system has also been further evolved, and is now in version 6.1 guise.
Designed by the Ferrari Styling Centre, the F8 Spider uses a Retractable Hard Top (RHT), a choice that highlights the car's overall look while also being a compact solution. The separation line between the car's body and roof has been shifted to above the B-pillar, thus allowing the top to be more compact and two-dimensional. The RHT can be divided into two parts and stowed on top of the engine. This allows the RHT to deploy or retract in 14 seconds, and can be operated at speeds of up to 45km/h.
Of course, the F8 Spider also retains many of the design concepts and elements that make the F8 Tributo a striking car visually. The sporty design is characterised by the S-Duct at the front end, and more compact, horizontal LED head lights. The entirely redesigned rear spoiler wraps around the taillights, and allows the return to a classic twinlight cluster, a styling cue drawn from early eight-cylinder berlinettas like the 308 GTB.
One of the F8 Spiders most distinctive design elements is the engine cover. The manta-like look is created by a central spine that starts from the rear screen and disappears under the wing of the blown spoiler.
Two buttress wings emerge from the centre volume and meld harmoniously with the bodywork, creating a sense of visual continuity.
These wing elements are suspended creating an air vent below them which helps improve dissipation of the heat coming off the engine.
The design of the F8 Spider also increases the car's overall aerodynamic efficiency and performance. Repositioned front radiators improve cooling while also shrinking the underbody surface area to generate additional downforce. As a result, the F8 Spider sees a 10% improvement in overall aerodynamic efficiency compared to the 488 Spider.
Production of the new Ferrari F8 Spider is slated to begin in the first half of 2020, with first customer deliveries expected to take place around the second half of 2020.
The Singapore launch of the Ferrari F8 Spider is slated for the first half of 2020.
While there is no indicative pricing for Singapore, the F8 Spider is priced in Italy approximately 11% more than the F8 Tributo.

Ferrari 488 Spider.
